Summary: Scarlett's going to summer camp for two months. She been going to this camp for years and is finally a conselor. Her friends and her arrive and find that everyone has changed for the better especialy three guys. Scarlett immediately falls for one, but she always swore she wouldn't fall for him no matter what. Can she go against herself and jump in or will she chicken out? Chapter 1 Scarlett grabbed her blue duffel bag from beside the couch. She was headed off to summer camp it was her first year being a real counselor. Her two best friends Kendal and Charli were going with her. They had already planned long nights and prank on the guy counselors who had become their friends over the years. She walked out the front door to her charcoal colored Pontiac G6. She popped open the trunk and threw her stuff in. She took one last long look at her two-story brick house it would be two months before she saw it again. “Bye, honey, have fun and be safe.” Scarlett’s mother called from the stoop. ‘I will mom; I’ll call as soon as I get there. Can you get my camera from the counter?” She called to her mother from the car. Scarlett wanted her Nikon D40 Digital SLR Camera. She loved photography and camp would be a great place to take lots of cool pictures. Her mom brought out the camera and handed it to her. She put the camera in the passenger seat. She hugged her mother and climbed into her car. She started the car listened to it purr for a minute then backed out of her driveway she had to go pick up Kendal and Charli. Charli’s house was closer she went down to blocks then turned right. She pulled into the driveway of a bi-level white and brick house. She parked and climbed out of her car. She walked up and small stone path to the elegant front porch. She took a large metal knocker in her hand and banged the door. “Hi, one second she’ll be right down.” Charli’s little sister Megan opened the door. Megan was like a miniature version of her sister they both had straight brown hair and green eyes. Although Charli’s was more of a writer than Megan was, every time Scarlett saw her she had a notebook in her hands. Charli soon came running down the stairs she grabbed her phone off of one of those cool cell phone holders. “Of course leave it to you to make us late.” Charli said as she flew out the door. “Yeah I’m the one racing to the car we have plenty of time before opening ceremonies.” Scarlett said as she followed her friend back to her car. “Just put my camera in the back.” Scarlett called from the pathway. “You always have that thing don’t you.” Charli asked after Scarlett had climbed into the car. “Yes I do and you always have a notebook or book and Kendal always has a hairbrush and mirror.” “I guess we’re all attached to our personal items. What way are you going to Kendal’s?” “I was going to go around the block then turn on her street did you have a different idea?” “No go that way the other way is blocked. Turn up your radio god it’s so quiet.” “Wait here plug in my iPod.” Scarlett grabbed her teal and gray (her favorite colors) purse. She pulled out her blue iPod that had it’s gray sock on it. “Do you have Girl’s Night Out on here?” “Yeah look under Miley Cyrus. Fly on the Wall should be in there two.” They had pulled into Kendal’s driveway. Her large three story white house loomed in front of them. Kendal was the last in her family to leave for their summer get a ways. Scarlett and Charli got out of the car. They pushed the buzzer button that was placed next to the mailbox. Kendal came out of the house her brown hair in a ponytail with the bangs hanging out covering one of her brown eyes. “Ready to go,” Scarlett asked as they all got back in her car. “As I’ll ever be,” Kendal answered with sarcasm. Scarlett pulled out of the driveway and headed north on Route 125 out of Kokomo Indiana. In two hours they came to a gravel rode. There were heavily wooded areas on both sides of the rode. About a mile or so down the gravel rode the woods gave way to an open area. There were cabins dotted on two sides of a clearing that had to soccer goals on either side. On the south end was a large building with on open area that had many picnic tables on it. To the north of the clearing were four smaller cabins. Scarlett pulled into a parking lot on the other side of the large building, the cafeteria. She got out with Kendal and Charli on either side of her. She popped the trunk and grabbed their bags. They walked to a table that had multiple adults lined up. There were five people sitting at the table. The girls set down their bags and walked over to the table. The first person was a woman with bright red hair she had a name tag that said her name was Jodi. “Good morning,” the woman had a sweet melodic voice. She had a big smile on her face. “Name please,” the woman had a clipboard that listed everyone’s name and cabin number. “Scarlett Val May,” Scarlett looked at the woman’s white t-shirt that seemed to think for some weather. Beads of sweat were dripping down the woman’s her face and off her nose. “Your with cabin 6 you’ll have two counselors with you and one CIT. You’ll bunk in the second cabin for the counselors. Here’s your cabin list all your stuff should be in your bunk and some of the girls are already waiting for you. The opening ceremonies will be in about half an hour.” Jodi handed Scarlett her list of cabin members, and a clipboard so she could check off the names as the girls came. Scarlett walked over to her bag and waited for Kendal and Charli to finish. They all looked at their list together. Each of them was in cabin six and their CIT was some girl named Susan. They all picked up their bags and headed for their bunk. Counselors got to sleep away from their cabins in bunks there were four bunks and eight cabins. Three counselors to each cabin mean twenty-four counselors, six counselors to a bunk. There were three bunk beds inside the bunk. Two of them were already taken but the counselors weren’t in them. Scarlett found they rest of her stuff beside the furthest bed on the bottom bunk. She was happy with choice and kept it. Kendal chose the bed above Scarlett and Charli chose the one next to Scarlett. They put their stuff away then headed out to their cabin. It was about One hundred yards from their bunk to the cabin. Inside of the cabin were three bunks beds and one single bed. The bunk beds were for the campers and the single was for the CIT. Four girls were already unpacking there stuff three had taken the top bunks and the other choose a bottom. “Hello,” A blonde haired girl called down from the top of her bunk. “Hey,” Scarlett, Charli, and Kendal greeted in unison. “I’m Taylor,” The girl introduced herself. “I’m Scarlett,” Scarlett greeted in return. “I’m Kendal,” Kendal indicated to herself. “And I’m Charli were your counselors.” Charli finished off. “I’m Emma,” A red haired girl that had chosen the bottom bunk said. “I’m Aurora,” A mouse haired girl called off the top left bunk. “I’m Claire,” Another blonde girl called off the last bunk. “It’s nice to meet you all.’ Kendal said Scarlett and Charli nodded their agreements. Should I continue?

Chapter 2
The group of girls walked across the field to the open building. Most of the other cabins were already there. It was time for the opening ceremonies. Scarlett leaded the pack Kendal and Charli close behind her, and the rest of the girls behind them. They walked into the building and sat down at a table. There was the woman who had check Scarlett in this morning at the microphone.
“Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Camp Muha I’m Jodi that warden and this is Jake, Kyle, and Miley.” Jodi indicated to the three people behind her. “We will be in charge of your activities. I’m sure everyone has meet their counselors but we’ll introduce them any way. In cabin one boys’ cabin is Ted, Nate, and Rylee.” Jodi indicated toward the three guys sitting at the closet picnic table. Scarlett looked at them they were all muscular and cute, but she thought the blonde one was the cutest. “Cabin number six girls’ are Scarlett, Kendal, and Charli.” Scarlett had missed the other cabins looking at the guys. Jodi went through the other cabins. “Now the counselors may have time away from you while you follow me for a tour around the campgrounds.” Jodi stepped off the stage and lead the campers away.
Scarlett, Kendal, and Charli joined the rest of the counselors. Scarlett suddenly remembered why the first guys had surprised her. Just last year those guys had been the nerds and now they were the hot ones. Scarlett sighed to herself thinking of the irony of the matter.
“Are we going to the clearing or just standing around here like a bunch of idiots?” Kalli a brunette from cabin seven asked as the counselors grouped together.
“Clearing,” the counselor spoke.
They all began to walk towards the woods. Scarlett looked around the ground had green lights shining on it from the leaves. They walked about a hundred yards before they came to a wide clearing. The clearing had blue bells and other wild flowers. The group walked to the middle of the clearing where a ring of logs sat. Scarlett took a seat next to Kendal and Charli.
“Okay so will play twenty questions. Rules everyone asks a question, no repeating questions and you must answer all question.” Kalli spoke up raising her voice over the whispers. The game wasn’t actually twenty questions but each person got asked a question from everyone. The questions could be about anything and everything.
“Scarlett has to be asked first.” Kendal knew that Scarlett hated this game so she had to make her go first.
“No I’m not going at all.” Scarlett protested the idea.
“You were nominated you have to go.” Charli was the one to speak this time.
“Fine, ask away.” Scarlett submitted herself to the stupidity.
“I’ll start then we can go around clockwise. When was the last time you had a boyfriend?” Kalli started the questions.
“Um… about three months ago but he was a jackass.” Scarlett answered the question confidentially.
“How many times have you made out with someone in the past year?” A blonde haired girl named Bianca asked the next question.
“None,” Scarlett blushed she was never one to have many boyfriends or romantic experiences.
The questioning continues with Violet, Avery, Zoe, Faith, Amber, Annalisa, and Brooke to finish off the girls then it was the guys’ turns starting with Chase, Ted, Nate, Rylee, Dylan, Braden, Cameron, Ethan, Cole, Owen, Sean, and last Spencer. Scarlett sighed with relief her turn was over. Another hour later and the games were over. Everyone had gotten up from their spots and were in little groups talking. Scarlett walked over to Rylee, Ted and Nate with Charli and Kendal.
“Rylee you seem to have grown up a little.” Scarlett complimented him. He was dressed in khaki shorts and an Aeropostale t-shirt.
“I guess I did but you don’t look so bad yourself.” He smiled his braces were gone.
“God, now your smiles perfect to.” She sighed again. Kendal was talking with Ted twirling her hair around her finger like she always did when she liked someone. Charli was talking to Nate which was amazing in itself she wasn’t big talker even then she wouldn’t usually talk to a guy.
“I wouldn’t say that, but okay.” Rylee shrugged. He seemed to fidget a little.
“You aren’t over your nervousness though.” Scarlett was being very observant.
“Guys it’s getting dark we better get back.” Kalli spoke up over all the talking.
“Fine,” Zoe called from her little group everyone left leaving Scarlett and Rylee alone. Scarlett felt a little nervous about the idea but suddenly felt good about it there was a wave of warmth and happiness that washed over her.
“I guess not.” Rylee continued the conversation he clearly wasn’t ready to leave.
“We’ll have to work on that I suppose.” Scarlett agreed she wasn’t done with him yet.
“No your social experiments are awful.” Rylee cringed at the thought Scarlett had always tried to help him out of his nerdy habits.
“They aren’t that bad you just have to be willing to work with me.”
“I don’t see any need. I’m managing talking to you. What more do you want?”
“See your already good at flirting.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Rylee blushed.
“Yeah, okay whatever.”
“Even if I was it isn’t working.”
“Maybe it is maybe it isn’t.”
“I’m hoping it is.”
“Let’s see.” Scarlett got on her tippy toes and kissed him lightly on the lips. She closed her eyes drinking in his scent it was wonderful like well what you what imagine a model smelling liked and he did look like one too.
Rylee moved one hand to the small of her back and the other to her face. He pulled her closer so that they were pressed together. The kisses lengthened and Scarlett parted her lips. Rylee’s tongue took advantage of this fact and felt around her mouth. Scarlett felt overwhelmed she started to slow the kiss. Her breathe was shallow and uneven, Rylee’s seemed to mimic hers. The kiss became short small pecks finally Scarlett worked her way out of the embrace.
“We can’t do this,” she muttered under her breathe. She looked down at her feet her breathe finally caught up with her.
“Why not,” Rylee was looking at her there was pain in his sweet voice.
“You know why it’s just not possible. It would be a summer fling and I don’t want to be hurt at the end.” Scarlett looked at him her eyes brimmed with tears.
“Why does it have to be a summer fling we live in the same town I just go to private school?” Rylee wiped a stray tear from her eye.
“I don’t think I could handle it.” Scarlett turned her head from him. “I have to get before Kendal and Charli get worried.” Scarlett didn’t wait for a reply she turned and left the clearing.
She went to her bunk throwing herself on the bed screaming into the pillow. She laid there with the pillow over her head. She sighed and let the rest of her tears spill from her eyes.
“Someone sounds happy,’ Charli said sarcastically she was like the queen of sarcasm.
“No I’m not I’m a fucking idiot that’s what.” Scarlett glared at Charli after taking the pillow off her head.
“What did you do?” Kendal said looking over the top of the bunk so that her hair fell over as if she was hanging upside down.
“It’s Rylee god I’m stupid. When you all left the clearing we stayed behind and well we were talking and I acted on an impulse.” Scarlett stopped there she never acted on impulses she always thought things through first.
“Keep going,” Charli encourage from where she sat on the ground by Scarlett’s bed.
“I kissed him and well it turned to more than just a peck and,” Scarlett’s tears stopped her sentence the rest turned to watered down words.
“Oh no,” Charli knew what was on Scarlett’s mind. Rylee had been just Scarlett’s friend and she always swore no matter what she wouldn’t change her mind.
“Uh huh,” Scarlett shook her head. She put the pillow back over her face. The last thing she remembered before falling asleep was Charli talking to Kendal. Chapter 3
Scarlett woke in a dream. It was misty outside and she was running on the dirt path. She turned down a hiking path there were dense forests on either side of her. She ran up a hill and ended up looking down into a beautiful valley. In the valley were streams and fields. She heard something behind her she turned to see Rylee standing beside a tree. The sun shining on him turned his golden blonde hair into a flame of sunlight and beauty. “I’m surprised you came.” He walked closer to her he stood a foot away from her looking down on her.
“I told you I would didn’t I.” Scarlett looked up at him. He blue eyes had happiness and weariness in them.
“I guess you did.” He took a step forward closing the space between them. He pressed his lips to hers. Her hands went around his neck.
Scarlett’s head shoot up breathing hard from her dream. The first light of dawn came through the window above her slid out of the bed with the clothes she had on yesterday still on. She went to her suitcase and grabbed new clothes. Quietly she slipped from the bunk and headed to the showers. She took a quick shower and got dressed in her short shorts and a tank top.
She went back to the bunk dropping off her dirty clothes then wrote a note to her friends saying she was out running. She pulled her hair up into a ponytail and then was out the door. She took her camera with so that she could take lots of nature pictures. She jogged from the bunk to a hiking trail.
She stopped at a group of wild flowers she took pictures both close up and far away. Then she took some of a group of deer that were eating some clover in a patch of sunlight. Scarlett began to walk again. She came to a small hill it looked familiar. She turned around remembering her dream. Although she wished that it could be true but she just couldn’t handle breaking a promise to herself.
Scarlett was soon back to the camp. Others were starting to wake up she walked across the large field to cabin six. Inside the girls were dressed and talking. Charli and Kendal were in there talking to the CIT. They turned to look at her. She gave a half-hearted smile.
“So what’s the activity for today?” Scarlett stood beside Charli.
“Swimming at the lake,” Charli added say nothing about the previous night.
“Okay sounds good to me.” Scarlett loved to swim this would surely clear her mind.
“You seem happy,” Kendal looked at her.
“I guess you could say that.” Scarlett shrugged.
Shortly after Scarlett was in her white bathing suit sun bathing. Charli and Kendal were in the lake splashing each other. Scarlett put her designer sunglasses on and looked out over the lake. It was a beautiful day with a few clouds dotting the sky. Suddenly water splashed Scarlett. Charli and Kendal were laughing.
“You two are so mean!” Scarlett screamed taking her sunglasses off.
“Well now that your wet you have no reason not to get in.” Kendal said from where she was in the lake.
“I have plenty of reason not to subside to your immaturity.” Scarlett replied using a big word because she knew it annoyed them. She always had a way of putting big words into sentences she was nerdy like that.
“Immature is a word used by people who don’t know how to have fun.” Charli splashed Scarlett again.
“Don’t use big words were on summer vacation your not supposed to use your brain just act on a whim.” Kendal was voicing her opinion on Scarlett’s problem while complaining about the big word usage.
“I don’t act on whims but I will get in so long you stop splashing me.” Scarlett got up from her spot. There was a small dock. She ran off the dock and dove into the water.
The cool water surrounded her. The coolness felt good compared to the hot sun and stuffy humid air. She came up to take a breathe of air. Charli and Kendal were in the shallows. Scarlett swam over to them.
“Are you happy now?” Scarlett stood beside Charli.
“No, but it will do.” Charli was looking at the water. There were silver minnows swimming around their legs.
“So, we all know how my camp life is going how’s yours?” Scarlett didn’t get the chance to ask how her friends ended last because of her little emotional break down.
“I like Ted,” Kendal like a new guy every week so it wasn’t unusual to hear the words I like so and such. She was boy crazy in a strong way.
“My feelings confuse me.” Charli never was good at dissevering her feelings they always confused her.
“You two never change do you?” Scarlett had a stick and was trying to spear a fish.
“What the hell are you doing?” Charli was watching Scarlett as she jammed the stick into the water.
“Trying to spear a fish,” Scarlett replied trying again to spear the minnows.
“You’re such a nerd,” Kendal was on the bank of the lake laid out drying herself with the sun.
“Thank you,” Scarlett replied she gave up on trying to spear the fish. She got out and sat between Charli and Kendal.
“So how are you feeling after your run?” Charli asked bring up the subject of Rylee casually.
“It was more of a walk and take pictures but I had a weird dream last night.” Scarlett looked from one friend to the other.
“Another long story,” Kendal sighed she never liked listening to Scarlett’s stories and Scarlett tells lots of stories.
“I was walking and I turned of the main path to a hiking trail. There was a lot of brush all around and then there was this hill. I climbed up the hill and there was this valley on the other side. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I thought I was only but I heard this noise. When I turned to see what it was. Rylee was standing there. He said he was surprised that I had actually showed up. I seemed to know that I was supposed to be there and then he moved closer. There was no space between us and then we kissed. That’s when I woke up. It was like those dreams I used to have about the mysterious blonde guy but I never knew who it was but this time I knew who it was.” Scarlett finished her story. All through junior high she’d been having these dreams about a mysterious blonde guy that just kept showing up in her dreams. She could never figure out who that guy was but now she was sure it had been Rylee all along.
“Sounds like you two were meant for each other.” Kendal never did get the point of the dreams they were just something for Scarlett to talk about.
“The mystery unravels itself.” Charli was overly excited.
“Yeah but I don’t like the outcome.” Scarlett sighed. The whistle blew for activity time to end. Now it was time for the boys and girls to come together for a time to be together. They would go in the large clearing in between the two sides. Scarlett sighed and walked back to her cabin. She put her tank top and short shorts back on. She went to the clearing with her camera.
She took pictures of kids playing together and some guys in a fake fight. She saw Rylee in the corner he looked like he had in her dream. His short blonde hair on and fire with the sun shining on him she took a quick picture but couldn’t keep her eyes off of him. He looked at her for a second. She gave a small smile then turned and took a picture of Kendal talking with Ted. She had her dark brown wrapped around her finger again.
Charli was suddenly next to Scarlett. She took the camera right out of Scarlett’s hands. She flipped thought the pictures stopping at the one of Rylee.
“How do you really feel about this?” Charli looked at her.
“I think I like him but it just doesn’t seem right I always have a plan and think things through and now I can’t think at all.” She replied looking behind her at Rylee again.
“You should just jump on and she where the roller coaster takes you.” Charli gave the camera back and walked away.
She thought about what Charli had said. ‘I don’t know what to do.’ Scarlett talked to herself. She had no plan this scared her she always had a friend.
Chapter 4
Scarlett sat underneath a tree watching the little kids playing soccer. Kendal was in a group of guys talking not far away and Charli was trying get a cat out of a bush. Scarlett looked to the side and notice feet beside her. She looked up to see Rylee standing beside her hands in his pockets.
“Did you want something?” Scarlett didn’t turn her attention from the kids playing in the field.
“Yes,” Rylee sat down he was going to speak even though he knew she didn’t want him to. “You shouldn’t be mad at me it wasn’t my fault that your feelings tell you no.” Rylee spoke the truth it stung Scarlett just a little.
“Who said I was mad at you.” Scarlett retorted emotionlessly. She still didn’t look at him because she knew her heart would beat out of her chest.
“Well you don’t seem very happy with me.” Rylee looked at her. His tone was almost pleading.
“I’m not mad at you I’m mad at myself I always promised myself I wouldn’t fall for you and now I don’t know what to do.” Scarlett’s tone was sad but she had no tears left. “I always have a plan or idea on what to do and now I have nothing. I’m scared that I’m going to hurt myself.” Scarlett couldn’t believe she had just told him that.
“Well don’t you ever at least try to be spontaneous?” Rylee was still there Scarlett had figured that he would have left after her emotionally answer.
“I did when I kissed you trust me that wasn’t planned at all.” Scarlett finally looked at him. He looked to be absorbing every word she had said.
“Was it really that bad or are you just making it harder for yourself?” Rylee had always seemed to know when Scarlett was just purposely making it hard for herself.
“No it wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t planned I always think before I act and I didn’t.” Scarlett looked at him his face gave away no emotion.
“Life is supposed to be full of surprises everything can’t be planned or thought through you just have to follow your heart not your head.” Rylee knew what he was talking about he always seemed to be that way.
“I don’t think I’m ready to act on impulses yet.” Scarlett didn’t want to follow her heart because she knew where it would lead to heartbreak and sadness. She just wasn’t ready for that yet.
“Well tell me when your ready to just dive into life without knowing where you’ll end up.” With that Rylee stood up and left. Scarlett could she defeat in his eyes. She hated that she had hurt him but she didn’t know what she could say.
Scarlett sat there thinking. Now everyone was against her morals she felt the way she did for a reason. She had been hurt to many times before just trying to get someone to notice her then it would all blow up in her face. She wasn’t ready to open herself up and put her heart in the hands of fate. She might eventually but just not yet. Jodi came from the large cafeteria building and called that lunch was ready.
She sat down at a picnic table with Charli and Kendal. Ted came and sat by Kendal and Kendal was talking to him while Scarlett decided to talk to Charli.
“Charli, I was talking to Rylee earlier when you were trying to get that cat.” Scarlett looked at her friend she had little scratch marks going down her arm.
“What did he have to say to you?” Charli looked down at her own arms and seemed to cringe at the thought.
“Well he said the life isn’t meant to be planned out your supposed to just follow your heart and forget what your brain says.” Scarlett put his words into her own.
“I agree you need to break out of your shell.” Charli continued eating her Mac n’ Cheese she just loved cheese and noodles so this was like her favorite food.
“Aren’t you supposed to be on my side?” Scarlett asked playing with her food more than eating it.
“Oh yeah right I’ll try harder next time.” Charlie rolled her eyes she was being sarcastic again.
“You don’t have to be so sarcastic it would help if I trusted my heart.” Scarlett took a bit of the food burning her tongue. “Oww, dang that’s hot stupid Mac n’ Cheese!” Scarlett exclaimed holding out her tongue and fanning it.
“No duh did you think it would be cold.” Charli laughed at her. “You are such a nerd.” Charli shook her head.
“Thanks I’m glad that this entertained you.’ Scarlett said the words sounded funny with her tongue sticking out. She grabbed her Dew and took a big sip. Dew was hers and Charli’s favorite soda.
“Well, someone has to entertain me don’t they.” Charli was still laughing a small tear came to the corner of her eyes. She always cried when she laughed to much.
“Your crying again,” Scarlett began to laugh with her friend.
Kendal stared at them as if they were immature, but she could be just as immature as they could. Scarlett stopped laughing when Jodi called time to go back to the field. Scarlett stood slowly grabbed her Dew and headed outside. She sat under the same tree taking pictures of the football game that the guy counselors had started. Rylee was surprisingly good at the game.
‘He just keeps racking up reasons for me to like him.’ Scarlett murmured to herself she wasn’t liking this he wasn’t supposed to make it harder for her to not fall head over heels for him. She sighed about ready to give into her feelings but then she remembered a camp rule they could get kicked out of camp if Jodi found out that they were seeing each other. Scarlett hit her head on the tree behind her.
She was stuck in a hole twelve feet deep and a foot around. You couldn’t maneuver your way out but there was no way you wanted to stay in there. She felt cramped her heart was telling her to let herself free rules were made to be broken but her brain was locking her up telling her she was being ridiculous.
Scarlett was barely aware that someone had come to sit by her. It was Nate the shaggy brown haired, green eyed, tall, evenly muscular, average weight guy that Charli was falling for. Charli could throw herself into the game. She sighed again and banged her head against the tree.
“You seem happy,’ Nate seemed just as sarcastic as Charli they were just plain perfect for each other.
“Do I look like I’m fine?” Scarlett retorted not moving her head from the tree.
“Well then what’s the matter?” Nate asked he sounded like Charli when she was trying to figure out what was wrong with Scarlett.
“Well I have a dilemma see I like Rylee but my head tells me no because its against the rules but my heart wants me to dive in. I don’t know who to listen to.” Scarlett sighed and closed her eyes. Her dream flooded back to her.
“You’ll have to figure that out for yourself, but I would do it fast because here he comes.” Nate got up and left that left Scarlett with Rylee.
“Hello,” Scarlett opened her eyes and looked up and him.
“Hi, I know that you don’t want to exactly dive into life but if it’s not to much to ask I still want us to be friends.” He still stood in front of her.
“I guess that would be okay,” Scarlett was actually thrilled by the idea that gave her more time to think her emotion through.
“Good, I’m glad,” Rylee smiled then turned and walked away.
Scarlett smiled to herself. Maybe Rylee wasn’t such a bad guy to at least give a chance to. She didn’t want to jump ahead of herself though.
Chapter 5
Scarlett sat on her bed looking through the photos she had taken that day. Charli was laying on her bed humming to herself and writing in her notebook. Kendal was nowhere to be found but everyone was sure she was with Ted.
“What do you have stuck in your head now?” Scarlett asked putting her camera down.
“Holler back girl,” Charli looked up from the story she was writing.
“So, I talked to Nate today.” Scarlett sat cross-legged on her bed facing Charli.
“About what,” Charli didn’t put down her notebook.
“Rylee he said everything that Rylee had said.” Scarlett watched for an expression change from Charli.
“He’s totally right you know.” Charli sat like Scarlett.
“And I also talk to Rylee he wants to at least be friends, but I’m not sure that I want to be just friends.”
“Then don’t be.”
“You are absolutely no help at all. Everyone’s siding with my heart but what about the brain she feels left out now.”
“Oh your brain has feelings now that’s nice.”
“My brain’s always had feelings she thinks she’s always right and she hasn’t failed me that often before.”
“Really well your brain needs to more… what’s the word?”
“Wrong, unemotional, retarded, I don’t know.”
“No, negotiable.”
“Well my brain is where I get my bullheadedness so my brains bullheaded too.”
“Fine agree with your brain see if I care.”
“No that’s it I’m taking all the advice ad going with my heart screw my brain it can scream at me later.”
“Poor little brain.’
“Ha ha your hilarious.”
“I know it please hold your applause.”
“Okay we’re changing subjects what do you think about Nate?”
“He’s HOT! And amazing and…”
“And what?”
“I don’t know.”
“I don’t know he doesn’t seem that into me so whatever.”
“You’d be surprised maybe you should try.”
“Maybe I’ll think about.”
“If I’m going in without a plan you have to try.”
“Fine by that way.”
“I will.”
Charli laughed. Kendal walked into the bunk with a smile on her face and a skip to herself.
“I’d even want to know.” Charli said.
“You’d like to know what?” Kendal asked climbing up to her bed.
“Never mind.”
“You’ll never guess where I was.” Kendal was sitting on top of her bed looking down on them. She just forgot about their conversation and made her own.
“Do I care,” Charli said under her breathe so that only Scarlett could here. “Where,” she asked louder.
“I was with Ted in the clearing.” Kendal said excited. Scarlett laughed at Charli’s remark but quickly put her hand over her mouth.
“Ooo fun,” Charli said sarcastically.
“Don’t sound so excited.” Kendal laid down and turned her back on them.
“So what did you want to know earlier?” Scarlett asked quietly.
“What do you mean?”
“You should ‘I would like to know earlier.’”
“I don’t even want to know talking about the skippy Kendal.”
“Oh,”
“Yeah.”
“How do you think I should tell Rylee?”
“Spill your heart out to him and tell him you love him.”
“Do you honestly think that will work?”
She smiled rolled her eyes and said “Yeah but you might want to take it a little slower.”
“So what should I say for now?”
“Whatever your little heart desires.”
“You’re a ton of help.”
“Don’t I know it.”
“He probably won’t believe me.”
“Find a way to make him believe you.”
“Okay I have an idea.”
“What?”
“You’ll find out.”
“How rude.”
“Just a little.”
“Would you two shut up and go to bed.” Kendal said from her bunk.
“Yeah talk to you in the morning Charli.”
“Yeah,” Charli and Scarlett laid down.
The next morning Scarlett woke up early again. She decided to take another hike before she initiated her idea. She put on some shorts and a sports bra and slipped out of the bunk. She went down the same trail she had yesterday except this time she went up the hill. She looked out over the hill it didn’t look the same as it had in her dream it must have been around noon when she was here then. The sight still took her breathe away. She twirled around looking all around the wonderful place.
She decided to go back to camp after standing on the hill for about half an hour. She ran all the way back stopping when she saw Rylee. Not exactly caring what she looked like at the moment she walked over to him.
“Rylee can I talk to you for a minute?” Scarlett asked from behind him.
“Sure,” Rylee turned around looking at her then smiling.
“Now I know you won’t believe me but the feelings I have for you are to strong for I’m just jumping in. We’ll put it this way I don’t think what happened in the clearing was a mistake and if you are willing to believe me meet me on top of a hill I found.” She gave Rylee the directions to the hill and then turned and walked away.
She walked into the bunk. Charli was awake and she looked at her. Scarlett just shrugged and grabbed some clothes. She put them on and waited for Charli and Kendal. They walked to the cabin getting the girls today was arts and crafts day. The got a bunch of construction paper and glitter and stuff and were told to make a sign for their bed.
Scarlett grabbed her favorite colors gray and teal. Charli grabbed hers hot pink and turquoise and Kendal’s lime green. Scarlett did a swirly design curving all the letters. Charli did harder line letters and Kendal’s were small and fine. Scarlett finished and cut out the design making it cooler.
She finished a waited for the others to finish. In this small time of thought she was thinking back to her dream. She hoped that this would work the way she wanted to. She hoped Rylee could at least partially believe her. As soon as Charli, Kendal, and the rest of the cabin finished Scarlett lead them outside. She went to the bunk and hung up her art. The art somehow maybe it feel more like home here. She checked her watch ten minutes before she had to go meet Rylee. Jodi called for any early lunch making Scarlett’s plan snap into play.
Scarlett barely made it past Charli. She had just enough time to make it if she ran. As soon as she was out of site she dashed towards the hiking trail. She got to the hill. She stopped at the bottom taking a breathe before running up. At the top she looked around no one else seemed to be there. Her hopes began to fall.
‘I knew he wouldn’t believe me.’ She sighed to herself this hadn’t turned out as she had hoped. Something moved making Scarlett jump. She turned around quickly to see what it was making her hair fly.
Rylee was against a tree just like he had been in her dream except it was a thousand times better in real life. She looked at him he seemed to glow in the sunlight. It reminded her of a movie or some romance book.
“I’m surprised you came.” He moved closer making the space between them smaller.
“I told you I would come didn’t I.” Scarlett said defiantly.
“Yes, but I wasn’t sure I believed you.” Rylee closed the gap between them.
Scarlett put her arms around his neck as a response to his remark. He put his hands on her hip. She looked up at him looking into his beautiful blue eyes. Rylee rested his forehead on hers. They were just about to kiss when a noise sounds from the forest. A deer comes through making them jump apart.
“Well that wasn’t planned.” Scarlett said softly.
“Wait so you planned this I thought you were actually trusting yourself for once.” Anger rose in Rylee’s voice as he spoke. “I can’t believe I actually believed you. I’m not doing this if you have to make yourself do it I want you to want this.” Rylee through his hands up in defeat walking away.
“Wait Rylee no!” Scarlett ran after him grabbing his arm to stop him.
“What you want to lead me on with more of your lies?” Rylee turned his eyes burned with more pain than anger.
“No Charli told me to wait but if it’s the only way to make you believe me.” Scarlett rambled trying to make sense of her own thoughts.
“Your talking to yourself,” Rylee was looking down at her.
“I didn’t plan anything I did this because I wanted to. I had a dream and it was almost just like what just happened but the deer didn’t come. All I knew was I was coming here and the rest I left to fate. I just remembered my dream that’s why I said what I did.” Scarlett looked at him truth was pouring from her mouth although he wasn’t probably going to believe her. “Rylee I did all of this because I love you.” Scarlett looked at her feet bracing herself for the reaction.
“I’m not sure I can say the same but I do believe you.’ Rylee lifted her head with two fingers.
“I guess that’s a start.” Scarlett knew she should have taken Charli’s advice but she had to make him believe her.
Rylee moved a step closer. He lifted her head again so she was looking up at him. He drew her head closer and kissed her lips ever so softly. Scarlett felt like a flower being handled with care. She put her arms around his neck and his hands slid down her back. Every spot he touched shivered with warmth. The kissed deepened but didn’t go as far as the first.
Scarlett’s watch beeped breaking the moment. It was Charli she had beeped her that Jodi was about to take the kids back outside to the field. The walkie-talkie watches they had got came in handy.
“We have to go.” Scarlett moved away from him and sprinted off through the trees.
She could hear his footsteps not far behind her. She ran to the camp everyone was still in the cafeteria. Scarlett stood and sat under her usual tree. Rylee went off on his own as soon as his friends came out.
Scarlett watched the little kids play a smile on her face. She was glad that she had just jumped into the game. She was out of that strange hole and it felt good. She laughed to herself at how the day had made her happy.

Chapter 6
Scarlett, Kendal and Charli all went to the lake for a swim once they had some free time. Scarlett had told them everything about what she had done that day during lunch. Charli seemed way more enthused than Kendal, but she loved them both so it was all good. Scarlett and Charli were sunning themselves while Kendal was talking to Ted over by one of the trees.
Scarlett put her designer sunglasses on top of her head so that they rested in her blonde hair which was pulled back in a ponytail. She stood up grabbing her camera she was taking pictures of Ted and Kendal. She turned her back so that she wouldn't be able to see anyone that was coming from the field. Scarlett was taking pictures of the swans paddling around the lake. She suddenly felt arms around her she jumped squealing.
"Jumpy" Rylee whispered in her ear kissing her cheek.
"Well if you wouldn't sneak up on me like that we wouldn't have this problem." Scarlett traditionally blamed things on other people and complained.
"Sorry," Rylee let go and stepped away. Charli looked at them smiling she stood up and left.
"You were fine," Scarlett turned and faced him.
"If you say so. You want to come to the clearing tonigh were having a dance off. You have the best choice of music."
"So you don't want me there for any other reason?"
"Well it would be nice for me to have time to hang out with my girlfriend."
'Wait who said I was your girlfriend?"
"You did," he said kissing her softly on the lips.
"Really oh right I remember now." She said against her lips she put her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her closer.
"Your funny," he had one hand one her face now and the other on the small of her back.
"I know," she pulled away. Jodi was walking towards them from the open building. "Jodi's coming," she explained when he gave her a confused look.
Rylee turned around and looked Jodi was heading towrd them her whistle bouncing with each step. Scarlett watched her expression going from worried to calm when she noticed that Jodi hadn't seen what they were doing. Jodi stopped a few feet short of them.
"if any of you are going to the clearing today be warned that I will know if you do anything." jodi put her hands on her hips and stared at them.
"Right no funny business." Rylee said sarcastically.
"You bet now you need to get somewhere but here we're blocking off the lake for the night."
"Okay," Scarlett and Rylee walked away waving for Ted and Kendal to follow.
They walked silently to the clearing. Everyone seemed on edge with Jodi's warning. They all knew what would happen if they were found. Scarlett seemed to look around making sure no one was following.
"You okay?" Rylee was standing close beside her but kept his distance.
"Yeah I'm fine I just don't want to get in trouble. My parents would freak out if I was kicked out of summer camp for having a boyfriend."
"In a good or bad way?"
"My dad is a bit to strict for it to be a good way."
"Right, are you excited about the competeion?"
"Yah I want to see the CITs get there butts kicked."
"Of course," he laughed and lead the way to the circle where everyone was seated. Scarlett had out her ipod and speakers ready to start the music.
"We need judges," Nate said from where he was seated beside Charli. He arm around her in a more than friend like gesture.
"I nominate Kendal, Charli, and Amber." Kalli said from her spot on the other side of the circle.
"Okay so it's those three who's going first?" Rylee and Nate were taking control of the whole thing.
"I will," a CIT said standing up.
"Okay anyone else who wants to compete needs to sign up on the paper." Nate instructed holding out the paper.
Violet,Avery, Zoey and Annalise signed up for the girls. the guys were Dylan, Braden, Cameron, and Cole. They all stood up and went to stand behind the group. Souja Boy was the first song that Scarlett played. The competetion went on for a while. They finally ended and split into the cliques. Some of the couples started making out and other were standing close together. There was a rustling sound in the woods and they all turned to see what it was.
